Who I'm Thankful For . . .

Today is an incredibly short post, but here are all of the family members in my life that make my Thanksgiving so incredibly special. I'm so thankful to my mother for preparing this amazing meal and to my dad for staying out of the kitchen!

I am thankful to my little family of Dennis and Brighton. They hold my heart in their hands. And finally I am so incredibly thankful to Cassi - my brothers girlfriend. They have been together for three years and she could not take better care of my little Todd. He will be 30 next month, but he will always be my little brother. I couldn't put a better couple together. One day I hope to call Cassi my official sister-in-law.

I hope you enjoy the pictures of our little family. It has been a fantastic afternoon. We have enjoyed many blessings and I cannot wait for that afternoon nap that is calling my name.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

What a Wednesday!

I need to be there WHEN?!

7:30 a.m. this morning and I am sitting in a doctor's office thinking how warm my bed would feel on this glorious day off. BUT, I'm at the doctor. I have been having shortness of breath and every now and then chest pains and incredibly low blood pressure ( 86/44), so my doctor wanted to see me. The only appointment was 7:30 this morning! YAWN! Luckily, after an asthma test, lung test, and blood work, the good news is I'm healthy! I'm just showing signs of stress and a little dehydration and need to drink gatorade. I can handle that compared to the alternative. I'm very grateful to Dennis for going with me so early and to my parents for keeping Miss B. We were there for 2 hours and she would have never made it!

Turkey Time!

Every year my mom puts me in charge of "the turkey". I honestly think it is because she believes I make the best turkey around Bentonville. Truth is, I probaly do bring over to her house the best turkey around, but the actual cooking part . . .lets keep the secret. Does she know or doesn't she? Hummmm?

Grateful for Grandy!

Grandy and Papa are my parents who we are incredibly fortunate to have them live 5 miles away from us. Brighton adores her Grandy and Papa. While we were at the doctor and getting the turkey, Grandy and B went to see "Frozen". I heard I missed a wonderful family movie. Brighton wants to go back! While they were having a movie date, Dennis let me take a nice long winters nap.

Oh no!

I joke about cooking the turkey, but honestly, I do cook almost every night. I love finding new recipies. Tonight I was trying out a new recipie - Creamy Garlic Pasta. Everything was running smoothly, smelling, looking and (shhh) tasting delicious and them BOOM - one ingredient caused us a trip to the local DQ. Why you ask . . . check it out for yourself. Sadly, I had no idea until after I had added 1 cup to the pasta and our dinner was out the door. Kicker is I just bought this last week.

Everyone's Favorite- Let the fight begin. . .

Brighton helped me tonight cook my great grandma's chocolate silk pie to take to Grandy's house for Thanksgiving. The thing is - it is everyone's favorite. Usually I make 4 pies to keep everyone happy, but tonight I only made two. So, it will be a showdown to see who gets to take the "extra" pie home. I have all of the bets on my little brother, Todd. But, there is no one in my family that dislikes the chocolate pie.

And to all a good night . . .

As I sit here finish up this blog, I am still thankful for this day because it was our day as a family. Everyday is not going to be perfect. But, I am grateful for each day that God blesses us with together.
May HE bless you and yours.

Unexpected Friends . . .

I think hands down anyone can tell you I am not a shy person. I never have been or really don't intend on being shy anytime soon. I can make friends with just about anyone and invest in them in about 1 hour and boom, I have a friend for life.Dennis likes to say I can talk to the wall. :) I just like to know people and their stories and where they came from. But, as I am reflecting on things I am thankful for, some friends are really sticking out to me this week. These girls, and one guy (wait for it) without a doubt God put in my life for a reason and they have blessed me beyond measure.

Dennis

I moved to NWA in 2002 and didn't know a single soul. I bought a cute little new construction brick home next door to a single guy and we happened to be the only single people in the entire neighborhood. I grew up in a Southern Baptist Church and asked him where he went to church and he said Church at Pinnacle Hills and boom - we went to church together every Sunday for years. We were instant friends, best friends. Yes, I dated, he dated, we would back to our houses and sit outside and talk about our dates and what went wrong and then head home. He would mow my yard every week and when I cooked dinner he always came over to eat. It was an even exchange. He was a wonderful guy friend. Dennis was like a big brother to me - being he is 5 years older. People would ask me - would you ever date him and I seriously said out loud - EW! Ha! Funny thing is, I had cable - Dennis was WAY too cheap to get cable. All he cared about was hunting. But, when he got bored he would come and watch tv in my recliner. One day, things changed and he came to watch tv and he sat on the couch with me. I remember calling my girlfriend and saying "UM, Dennis is on the couch!" The rest is pretty much history. We got engaged, I sold my house 4 days later, moved back home to my parents house and we were married 6 months later. He is still my best friend, and I am so glad we had that 3 year foundation of friendship and went through those ups and downs together. I couldn't love him anymore.

Carrie

I met Carrie also in 2002. Probably even before I met Dennis. When I interviewed for my job I met her in a hallway and she was just returning for a field trip and the principal that hired me, Gary Lane put her on the spot and said "This is your first year teaching, do you have any words of advice for Jillian" and Carrie said "It's a lot of fun to work here". I remember it like it was yesterday. She was holding an 8 ball in her hand and she just wanted to go control her kids. She HATES that story, but she'll forgive me. Carrie was the matron of honor in my wedding for so many reasons, but she is truly like my big sister. We fight, make up, fight, make up and you just never know with us. We have basically the exact taste - without even talking about it - we have usually bought the same item at a store and then when we see the other one has it - we don't even look shocked - because that's just us. We are reality tv junkies, people mag lovers and just want to escape to the movies. We just know. We have a friendship that will last forever. We are the same and just alike. But we love each other and no one gets it but us.

 Robin

Robin Alpe Wright - we were a match made in heaven. Seriously. Two peas in a pod. Robin would walk to Texas and back in barefeet if she thought I needed her to. Robin is the most caring person I know and is always by my side. She was there when my precious Bailey passed away. When Brighton had to have reconstructive ear surgery, or when its my birthday and I'm in bed napping and I don't move just because she walks in. Robin - you get why we order kids meals and why we love our dogs and why only children are best for us and don't get us started on  . . . .nevermind. I love you dear friend.

Emily & Kate

Emily and Kate . . . Kate and Emily. We have all been together the past 5 years. Our common link - our first borns. Emily has Owen and Kate has Will. Emily and Kate both went on to have two precious baby girls - Avery and Elliette. I stood my ground. Emily and Kate both also teach for our school district, but the beauty of it all is we all teach at a different school so we can choose to vent about work because no one knows who or what you are talking about or not talk about work because no one knows who or what you are talking about! So, we're friends. Kate and Emily are artistic. Kate is an art teacher so that's a given, but Emily is a more DIY kind of girl. These girls LOVE Hobby Lobby where as I just shop on Etsy. At times you woudn't put the three of us togehter, at time you would put two of us or the other two of us - it's a great friendship regardless. A year from now our first borns will be half way through their Kinder year and I hope I will still get together once a month with these wonderful friends. They mean the world to me.

Rikki Jean

Rikki has been my friend since the 3rd grade at Beryl Henry Elementary. I get to see her about once a year (when I go to Dallas and she doesn't come here). I can talk to her once a month or once every 6 weeks or every day. I can send her a random text and she never questions or asks where I've been. We are both busy moms and working moms. No matter what she knows I am here and vice-versa. I love my little Rikki Jean and am very thankful I am kept her friendship for nearly 25 years. WOW!

Thank you for letting me share these amazing people in my life! I know you have lots in yours! I would love to hear about them! Who has God blessed you with in your everyday life?

I have a blog?! Living Under a Rock . . .

Living Under a Rock Reason #1

Okay . . . so apparently I have been missing out and am WAY behind. APPARENTLY, everyone who is anyone has a blog. So, here I am . . . .blogging. Which kind of feels out of character for me, but then again, doesn't? If that makes any sense at all. I am kind of excited actually because I do want Brighton to have a chance to look back on all of this one day and see this and know that mom wasn't a scrapbooker (please tell me I'm not supposed to be doing all of that cutting, too), but she did keep everything online!:)

I checked with the majority of my friends and just knew they would say - "No, I don't have a blog - boy was I wrong - they do! WHO KNEW! So, I'm going to give it a whirl. Any encourgament is greatly appreciated as well as how to make my page all artistic and cute!

Living Under a Rock Reason #2

Last Saturday my Facebook friends were going crazy . . .waiting in line for 4-6 hours for someone called "The Pioneer Lady"? What in the world? WHO in the world? Who is this person they speak of? I had to find out. I had never in my life? All I could imagine was someone who cooked squirrels or deer that she killed by her own hands and we all know that isn't me. So the next day in Sunday School, I had to find out. Turns out, yes again, I have been under a rock. Apparently Ree Drummond is the "new" Paula Deen. So, here I go. I bought two cookbooks and off a cooking I go. We shall see. So far I haven't found any squirrels.

A Blessing from B . . . .Brighton's Pink Christmas Tree is up in her room. She couldn't wait. This tree is so special to her because it has "her" ornaments from every year of what she was in to from that year. For example -her first ornaments were "The Backyardians", followed by Pinkalicious, then, Jake and the Neverland Pirates, and now My Little Ponies. And, then it also has whatever she has made at church or at school on her tree. It is a very special tree I have to say. It is funny to see her decorate it because all of the ornaments hang right at the bottom and none at the top because she simply cannot reach them. But, it is HER tree and she likes it that way.

Until next time,
Jillian
